THE PORT HOUSE, A NEW LANDMARK OF ANTWERPTHE REQUEST
In the port of Antwerp, a modern structure designed by the architect Zaha Hadid was opened to public in September 2016: it is a glass structure raising on top of an ancient firehouse. The sparkling glass panels pay homage to the diamond trade that brought prosperity to Antwerp.
Thanks to the renewing project, the abandoned building was extended in volume. It has been converted into a modern office department, hosting around 500 Port Authority employees.
The building is about 60 meters high. Vertical multistage booster pumps are necessary to pressurize water to the highest level, and new sewage tanks were added to collect water from the toilets. The hydraulic work was assigned to our partner Raf Vliegen NV, who chose DAB booster pumps as usual. A big booster set of 1 x NKV 20/7 and a smaller booster set 3 x KVCX AD 65/80 with on-board variable frequency driver are the suitable products to serve pressurized water at constant ratio or with load modularity. The systems were installed in the technical room at the basement of the ancient building.
In the same installation, you can also find sewage pumps by DAB (provided before): 2 x FEKA 2500.2T with DWC control box, 2 x FEKA 3000.2T with E.BOX PLUS control box, 2 x FEKA 4150.2T with AHMED control box.
That’s really a success story! At night, when the light is switched on in the Port House, it can be seen from miles around, being considered the new landmark of the city of Antwerp. If you will be looking at it, don’t forget there are DAB Pumps working there!

PORT HOUSE, IL NUOVO SIMBOLO DELLA CITTÀ DI ANVERSALA RICHIESTA
Nel porto di Anversa, la nuova Port House fu aperta al pubblico nel settembre del 2016. La nuova struttura di vetro, disegnata da Zaha Hadid e posizionata sopra a quella che era una vecchia caserma dei pompieri ormai in disuso, ha permesso l’estensione della capacità del complesso, rendendolo adeguato ad alloggiare tutti gli uffici della capitaneria di porto. Ora ci lavorano dentro 500 impiegati, che prima erano sparsi su diversi edifici, non avendo la capitaneria mai avuto una vera e propria sede principale.
La struttura reticolare in vetro ricorda la forma di un diamante, in omaggio al traffico di diamanti che avveniva nel porto durante il secolo precedente, e che ha contribuito in maniera importante allo sviluppo economico della città. Ecco che l’opera d’arte prende un significato ulteriore, e si pone come punto d’unione tra il centro città e il porto, e come unione tra il passato e il presente.
In questo edificio alto circa 60 metri, pompe verticali multistadio sono necessarie per pressurizzare l’acqua fino ai livelli più alti. Sono state aggiunte anche delle nuove vasche di raccolta acque reflue. I lavori idraulici sono stati commissionati al nostro partner installatore Raf Vliegen NV, che come sempre ha scelto DAB anche per questo progetto. Un gruppo di pressione già assemblato di una NKV 20/7 ed un altro gruppo di pressione con inverter 3 x KVCX AD 65/80 per la parte modulante a portata variabile sono stati scelti per questa applicazione. L’installazione è stata eseguita in un vano tecnico nel basamento del vecchio edificio.
Nella stessa installazione, erano già presenti anche pompe DAB per il drenaggio delle acque reflue, in particolare 2 x FEKA 2500.2T con quadro elettrico DWC, 2 x FEKA 3000.2T con quadro elettrico E.Box, 2 x FEKA 4150.2T con quadro elettrico AHMED.
Oggi, quando l’edificio della Port House si illumina di notte, può essere visto da molti chilometri di distanza. È per questo che viene considerato come un monumento simbolo della città di Anversa. Se un giorno ti capiterà di vederlo mentre visiti la città, ricordati che ci sono delle pompe DAB che lavorano lì dentro!
